For all of us who are trying to catch up and finish the course while working and dealing with winter, here's a bit of stress relief:
Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam
And the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
How often at night when the heavens are bright
With the light from the glittering stars
Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds that of ours
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Where the air is so pure, the zephyrs so free
The breezes so balmy and light
That I would not exchange my home on the range
For all of the cities so bright
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Oh, I love those wild flow'rs in this dear land of ours
The curlew, I love to hear scream
And I love the white rocks and the antelope flocks
That graze on the mountaintops green
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
I used to sing this song all the time when I was a kid. It helped me visualize riding the open range on my paint horse with Gene Autry as a sidekick.

Nice - are you delerious from shoveling??
ReplyDeleteI think it's cabin fever......I am dreaming of a place where the skies are not cloudy all day.....and the wind is a warm breeze...rather than a bone rattling wind chill factor
ReplyDeleteI loved this song in 5th grade. Mrs. Coviello, my social studies teacher, would beat it out on the piano and we would sing along :-)
ReplyDeleteI too loved this song - it was easy to learn, easy to listen to and pacified the restless natives in elementary school. It also helped me visualize my range rider life on my wild bronco who only let me ride him and my partner in vanquishing villains, Gene Autry.
ReplyDeleteWe recall our good childhood memories so easily. It is a great gift if you have had a happy childhood. It helps one deal with the challenges of life with an inner core of love and kindness given to you by your parents. I am thankful for my happy childhood. I never became a range rider, but my life has been an adventure...and continues to be.
Paul,
ReplyDeleteThank you. I loved this song too, as a kid. But I came to favor another one by Bing Crosby, "Don't Fence Me In." Too bad he didn't do more Westerns with Bob Hope (funny).
Blessings.
Carl
Thanks for your comments. See how we appreciate the warm memories of our childhoods and how powerful those nurturing, happy, soothing moments are for us. We should all remember this in our adult lives and try to have lots of sunlight, flowers, murmuring fountains, laughter, good friends and happy adventures.
